Kagura FestivalYuki, Japan
Mid October
DescriptionEveryone from ethni-musicologists to tourists passing through the town of Yuki will be glad they arrived in time to see this town's expression of traditional Kagura, twelve-part pieces of Shinto music and dance.
Yuki's particular Kagura style has been developed over generations, as the pieces themselves as well as an understanding of the importance of Kagura as a traditional art form are handed down from parent to child. Some of Yuki's Kagura groups are even considered intangible cultural assets by Hiroshima prefecture.
