Earth Day at Mt. Trashmore ParkVirginia Beach, Virginia, USA
Early May
DescriptionVirginia Beach Clean Community Commission and the Earth Day Event Board invite you to go green at Earth Day 2009 on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Mount Trashmore Park (one of the nation’s first recycled landfills) in Virginia Beach from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Free and open to the public with ample onsite parking, this family-friendly event strives to say goodbye to those granola stereotypes of the environmentally conscious and invites you to refresh your approach to making our world a healthier place. With many interactive exhibits and activities, this event will give you a chance to discover and explore effective, convenient and cutting-edge ways to green your lifestyle.
Some highlights for this year’s event feature plastic bag recycling, a fun biking event, and our eCycling event (sponsored by Synergy Recycling) where all Hampton Roads residents are invited to recycle those old computers, electronics and other related peripherals (like ink cartridges) that are hazardous to our landfills.
Citizens are also invited to bring unwanted plastic bags to be recycled by a local recycler. Receive a free prize when you bring 25 or more plastic bags! Additionally, we are hosting a biking event which includes a bike valet, bike safety check, and a celebrity bike ride around Lake Trashmore.
Visit with theme-specific exhibits and demonstrations on how to reduce your carbon footprint, categorized by “You & the Environment,” “Home & Yard,” and “Auto.” Learn about eco-friendly car maintenance tips, the benefits of using compact-fluorescent light bulbs, environmentally-sound techniques applied to your garden, and so much more!
We’ll also be presenting interesting and educational displays including alternative fuel vehicles, interactive environmental exhibits like the Virginia Aquarium’s touch tank and “Ocean in Motion” trailer, and wild animals as part of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Outdoor Programs!
Live musical entertainment and special “Mind, Body & Spirit” demonstrations are featured along with children’s activities and festival foods available for purchase.
This event is brought to you by Synergy Recycling, Entercom Communications Corp.
