I'mani
I'mani This teen female rapper/lyrist/proformer from Connecticut is intent on always remembering who she is, and where she came from, a small town. In February 2005 , after appearing in some local talent shows, I'mani went to Smokehouse studios in Bridgeport, CT and started recording her mixed CD demo. No one expected the immediate and overwhelming response that followed. Requests from various artists such as Chandra Simmons, seem to come out of nowhere and appearances to guest on cds and perform in shows. One point of difference that sets apart I'mani's music is the absence of profanity, which she feels is unnecessary to getting her point across. Adding that she wanted her music to be family friendly, the kind that can be played on the car stereo and won’t embarrass parents while being played. Very wise for a 16 year old, I'mani takes in everything she sees and uses it constructively for her music, but includes some fun tracks too. She also adds that ‘everyone may not like my music but that’s ok too I do. And if I can help someone my job is done” I'mani’s favorite song is one she wrote about herself and her mother, called "It Ain't Ezay." It talks about the difficulties they sometimes face being a mother-daughter team also working together and in their daily life struggles. Performing live is something I’mani takes just as seriously as writing and recording. She recalls that her most memorable live show was at Warsaw Park, in her hometown. She also performs for community events and will be performing around the country this summer. As you watch her interact with the crowd, you’ll notice how at ease she is on stage with the microphone in hand. It's was not only in the studio, however, that I'mani was flexing her musical muscle. She was also involved with WVOF-FM, a Fairfield University radio station, where she co-hosted a radio show once a week. She also was able to interview artist Chris Brown before his album made it’s debut in stores. I'mani’s gig happened almost by accident, while she was on the show for an interview of her own. She immediately clicked with the host of the show, Disc Jockey EZ Mike, and within minutes, he suggested she co-host with him. Viewers called up and supported the idea, and before she knew it, she was the newest on-air Personality .She has since moved on to other projects but keeps in touch with DJ EZ Mike. I’mani recently appeared in a local music video with upcoming artist DNP, from New Britain, Connecticut, and also made a solo appearance at the Arena Basketball Classic in 2006 and a stint in a interactive Pilot called "REACH".. Various other shows and appearances are forthcoming. I’mani’s music is now playing on Wvof 88.5 Fm and Whnu 88.7 ( Local Connecticut Stations) Hear Imani on www.myspace.bzmusicgroup
