Auburn's Veterans Day Parade and Observance
Auburn
November 07, 2009

Since 1965, the City of Auburn has honored our Veterans. Auburn’s Veterans Day Parade and Observance has once again been recognized by the National Veterans Day Committee and the US Department of Defense as one of the few regional sites for the celebration of Veterans Day 2009 in the United States. Now in its 44th year, Auburn’s Veterans Day Parade has become one of the largest Veteran’s parades west of the Mississippi. The 2009 parade will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00am on Main Street in Downtown Auburn. This year’s event is expected to draw well over 30,000 people. The parade is supported by each branch of the military and thousands of veterans, active military personnel and veteran service organizations across the state. The parade boasts over 5,000 participants and over 200 units including military vehicles and equipment, military and veteran units, over 25 marching bands, historic cars, community groups and more. A local singer will belt out the Star Spangled Banner, followed by an impressive C-17 fly-over, supported by the US Air Force and McChord Air Force Base to start the much anticipated parade. Although the parade is the focal point of the day long events, numerous other Veteran-related events take place in Auburn over the course of the day. Saturday’s events start bright and early with an American Legion sponsored breakfast, followed by a Remembrance Ceremony and lighting of the Flame, Static Display and Information Booths are available from 9:00am – 3:00pm; a luncheon, VFW Open House and the state’s largest marching band competition conclude the day. View www.auburnwa.gov for complete event details.

A portion of all ticket sales for the Argosy Christmas Ship Festival goes to benefit The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy, an annual program that raises money for several charitable organizations and social service providers helping children and families in the Puget Sound area.
