Las Posadas
December 18 - December 24, 2004
Nation Wide, Mexico

The first thing to know about celebrating Christmas in Mexico is that most everybody takes off the last two weeks in December - to party, spend more time with the family, visit with old friends, even make new friends. One of the biggest fiestas of the year - in small towns, big cities, the beach resorts, everywhere - Christmas in Mexico is celebrated in a variety of ways. A common denominator is the posada, a recreation of Mary (on donkey) and Joseph searching for a "room at the inn." Accompanying them is a choir of small children who knock on doors asking for lodging for the weary couple. By previous arrangement, there are no takers.

The procession, which takes place during the 12 days before Christmas, moves along, growing in numbers until it reaches the church, where mass is held. After the service, the children get to enjoy a festive piñata party.

Anchorage Film Festival
December 02 - December 12, 2004
Anchorage, AK, USA

Over one million square miles and just one festival. A showcase of independent films and videos from around the world. North America's northernmost independent film festival is getting ready for it's fourth year of bringing hungry movie-goers in from the cold and dark to bask in the illumination of hot films from around the globe. Anchorage is a city of 260,000 inhabitants crouching on the edge of the howling Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by mountains and edged by a frigid and restless sea. It’s far away from Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto, and people up here are proud of the fact they do things a little differently from the rest of the world. Independence has always been regarded as an asset, and that spirit is what fueled the creation of this festival. The Anchorage International Film Festival is going into its 4th year, and in our call for entries the founders would like to invite you to participate in a festival that is unlike any other. The enthusiasm, sophistication and passion of our audiences will surprise you. The integrity of our judging process is second to none. And yet, it is still possible for your film to stand out as, admittedly, we are not overwhelmed by the quantity of entries that must besiege the larger festivals. During our long, dark winter we find it invigorating to immerse ourselves in the selection process and gorge ourselves on the vibrant visions of filmmakers from around the globe. We urge you to submit your films or videos and join the other independent filmmakers who have been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm for all things independent that embodies our so-called sleepy little city by the sea. We are very humble and somewhat informal, yet, true to our Alaskan spirit, we are very dedicated and enthusiastic in the way we go about our endeavors. In the past we have been covered by media such as the Sundance Channel, Premiere Magazine, and Canal Plus. Each year we invite several well-established film professionals including directors from other major film festivals. Our attendance is expected to surpass the 4000 mark this year, which is phenomenal for a 3-year-old event in a city the size of Anchorage. We invite you to join the many other filmmakers and journalists who are lured by the mystique of Alaska—plus, you just might win a coveted Golden Oosik or be awarded one of the cash prizes given away to the top films. As a bonus, the founders of the AIFF are excited to announce that this year's event will be concluded with screenings at the prestigious Edward Albee Theater Conference in Valdez, Alaska. It's a great conference! At least 600 national and international stars, playwrights, directors and other talented people attend. Thanks for your interest in our great little film fest, Tony Sheppard AIFF Director filmsak@alaska.net 907.338.3690

Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade
December 15, 2007
Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA

The Fort Lauderdale Lighted Boat Parade is one of the largest lighted boat parades in the country. The city has actually built an entire festival, Winterfest, around the event. The parade's nighttime tradition, with its flotilla of brightly lit yachts, began in the 1960's when a group of 20 enthusiastic revelers took to the Intra-coastal Waterway with family and friends.

From those modest beginnings the parade has grown from a local celebration into a holiday festival that is international in scope and impact on the local economy. So, you can enter your boat in America's Most-Watched Boat Parade, or just go to watch the beautifully decorated boats travel the 10 miles from Port Everglades to Pompano. Singing groups are on board to further spirit you into the holiday season.

Christkindlmarket Chicago- a German tradition with International Flair and Local Color Chicago's popular, four-week long outdoor holiday festival with international flair and local color, inspired by the famous outdoor holiday markets of Germany, attracts well over 1 million visitors every year.

In over 60 charming traditional timber booths and special displays areas, vendors from Germany, Europe and the Americas offer a broad variety of products and specialties: from German Christmas delicacies and chocolates such as the famous “Nürnberger Lebkuchen” (ginger bread cookies) and Christmas Stollen, from Original German Christmas ornaments to artistic glass, pewter and straw decorations to wooden toys and nutcrackers, from cuckoo clocks to beer steins, from delicate lace products and hand-knit sweaters to candles, silver jewelry and music.

Christkindlmarket Chicago features inspiring demonstrations of glassblowing and woodcarving and weekend live performances by a German American band. Offers a “special little something” for every one: families and children relish the pretzels and Christmas cookies, the merry-go-rounds and the annual Children’s Lantern Parade on the first Thursday following Thanksgiving.

Chicagoans, business travelers and tourists alike unwind to the many musical performances by choirs and bands throughout the festival. On the weekend the caroling Glen Sorgatz Brass Band adding the musical notes to the holiday market.

After a shopping extravaganza, the popular and heated “Grand Timber House” on Daley Plaza and the "Fest Tent" invite visitors to enjoy the famous German “Gemütlichkeit.” Tasty traditional European and American food, such as bratwurst, potato pancakes, schnitzel, goulash or hot dogs await them, to be savored with the famous hot Glühwein, a spiced red wine (served in signature Christkindlmarket Chicago mugs) or a cold German beer.

At the “Welcome to Germany” corner in the "Fest Tent" Pavilion visitors can learn more about Germany and its beautiful cities and landscapes. They will find diverse information to plan their next vacation or business trip.
