Celebrate Urban Birds w/ Nature Fest

Do you love the outdoors? Do you have children or youth who love the outdoors? Join us as we celebrate urban birds in collaboration with the Celebrate Urban Birds Project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This will be a series of bird observation events that will culminates in a major event on May 31st, 2015 in Balboa Park, San Diego. Participants will learn about city birds, conduct bird counts for science, and engage in urban greening efforts. The three day series will begin Saturday May 16th and continue May 24th and 21st and will involve bird watching, gardening, science, and cultural and arts activities. Celebrate Urban Birds is year-round project developed and launched by The Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Its primary purpose is to reach diverse urban audiences who do not already participate in science or scientific investigation. Project participants watch birds in their neighborhoods and report what they see. This information helps scientists better understand how birds survive in cities and make use of green spaces, including parks and gardens. The project recruits inner-city youth to learn about birds, and participating in neighborhood activities focus on birds and nature. Suggested ages for bird observations are 8-18 years old. All ages are welcome to participate in gardening and arts activities.

The WCF advances a global movement for children’s creative and empathic development sparked some twenty years ago by the International Child Art Foundation (ICAF) as the building block for universal prosperity and peace. The WCF educational programming is based on STEAMS Education—the ICAFs pioneering approach that integrates STEM disciplines with art and culture (signified by the A) and sport and play (the S) for children’s holistic development. Festival 8 is a celebration. A celebration of the senses. A coming together of like minded souls to share, connect and participate in many entertainments for the heart, body and soul. From beautiful sights to engaging sounds, from body tingling dance to tantalising tastes. Food for the mind, sustenance for the heart and inspiration of the spirit. Participation is the key that will open many of the delights of this festival…… from workshops to walkabouts, joining in will be part of the fun. We want people to really feel that this is their festival, one they can join in with and even influence with a Sunday Afternoon forum to meet with the organisers! The fun begins on Friday 17th July 2015 and goes through until late Sunday 19th July. This is a quality family festival providing boutique facilities and tent loads of entertainment. If it rains, no problem we will have it covered! There will be on site creche facilities as well as plenty of entertainments for older children. For the big kids (adults) there will be a diverse line up of music, cabaret, art, talks, theatre and many other interactive entertainments including a giant maze! Many of Friday and Saturdays workshops will be focused around creating decorations, instruments, costumes, learning dance moves and percussion rhythms ready for the spectacular figure 8 parade that winds its way around the festival leading to a LED show, fireworks and lighting of the sacred fire. This is a boutique festival with a desire to find people who really know how to join in and celebrate the senses. This festival might not be for everyone, but for the people that get it, then it will be the best festival they have ever attended and helped happen. We look forward to meeting many like minded souls to share the love, inspiration and creativity that is FESTIVAL 8.

IKEA Renton River Days is an annual six-day community family festival. Festival513 returns this summer to coincide with the Macy’s Music Festival held at Paul Brown Stadium. Festival513 serves as a complementary event meeting the needs of the nearly 40,000 Macy’s Music Festival patrons expected that weekend. Strategically located on Elm Street directly in front of Paul Brown Stadium, Festival513 transforms the thoroughfare into a convenient and centralized shopping area of food and general merchandise vendors. Festival513 is certain to capture the attention and enthusiasm of festival patrons as well as the general public. Hours of operation are Friday 6:00 pm until 2:00 am and Saturday 10:00 am until 2:00 am. The event is free and open for all to attend. Macys Music Festival began in 1962, a pure jazz event at Carthage Fairgrounds. It evolved into the largest rhythm and blues festival in the country, with a total economic impact of $25 million, according to to a 2000 report released by the Greater Cincinnati Center for Economic Education at the University of Cincinnati. It is more than just a concert, its an event! Its a place for people-watch, eat, drink, shop, mingle, relax, soak in the rays, and of course hear some of the worlds finest contemporary music. This years lineup will be one the most diverse and electrifying in the Festivals history. The incredible combination of R&B, Hip-Hop and Jazz offers musical variety for every taste.

Since its inception in 1962, the Festival has continually showcased the biggest names in contemporary music. Past performers include David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, Randy Crawford, Will Downing, Grover Washington, Jr., George Duke, Chaka Kahn, Patti LaBelle, Maysa, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, and many, many more.


River Blast

It’s going to be a blast down on the Kentucky River for the 2015 River Blast, presented by Kentucky American Water, takes place at Fort Boonesborough State Park Saturday August 1st from Noon – 10 p.m. Organized by the Kentucky River Water Trail Alliance and benefiting Bluegrass Tomorrow and the Kentucky Riverkeeper organization, River Blast will include the “blast” component Fireworks, presented by the Kentucky Department of Adventure Tourism at 10 p.m., “Water Fire” a bonfire on the Boonesborough Beach beginning at 6 p.m., live entertainment all day. The “Race Between the Locks” offers the public a chance to get on the river to canoe or kayak with a 6-mile “fun paddle” to Clays Ferry (beginning at Noon) or for advanced paddlers a 21-mile race to Valley View (begins at 8 a.m.) Prices are $50 per person for the fun paddle, $75 for the advanced race, includes refreshments, water, t-shirt, prizes, food, and canoes (if you don’t have your own boat). A car show (antiques, hot rods & more), festival foods and concessions including a beer garden, river and water exhibits, arts & crafts vendors, kids activities, and fun for the whole family are also planned.

Sweet Pea Festival

The Sweet Pea Festival is a three day festival of the arts held the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in August. The Festival kicks off late Friday afternoon in Lindley Park with a performance by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks Saturday ramps up with a children’s run and parade that lead the community to the park where the festivities continue through 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Weekend entertainment comes in many forms – music of all genres, performances by local theatre and dance troupes, workshops, family-friendly entertainment and activities, a flower show, a beer and wine garden featuring Montana microbrews, and over 100 arts and crafts vendors to stroll through and purchase unique gifts for yourself, family, and friends. The week leading up to the Festival offers additional fun-filled, community events. Artists of all skill levels converge on Main Street Tuesday morning for Chalk on the Walk. Wednesday evening local restaurants line Main Street to offer up samples of their fare, while musicians entertain, during the ever popular Bite of Bozeman and the Sweet Pea Art Show runs through the entire month of August at the Bozeman Public Library. Admission to events leading up to Festival weekend is free. Admission to the events in Lindley Park requires the purchase of an admission wristband. (Children six and under admitted free.) The Sweet Pea Festival is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All money raised in excess of what is needed to operate the Festival is given back to the community in the form of grants for the arts, art education, and special projects in the Bozeman area.
