Mobile International Festival
November 21, 2009
Mobile, Alabama, USA
The Mobile International Festival takes thousands of visitors around the world. The festival of over 70 countries began in 1983 with the purpose of educating citizens about other cultures. Executive Director Estela Dorn said, “The International Festival offers everyone, from school children to adults, the opportunity to know the world. When people understand each other and realize our differences, these barriers can diminish and even be removed.” Each year, festival activities are given a theme which becomes the focus of the cultural booths. Over 1,000 volunteers make the festival a feast for the senses by creating these festive cultural booths displaying posters, dolls, stamps, and handmade goods from their native countries. Other festival members manage the tantalizing food booths, selling authentic dishes and beverages from more than twenty countries. Visitors can sample German pastries, Mexican quesadillas, Philippine adobo, Japanese sushi, Vietnamese spring rolls, Brazilian coffee and chocolates, Puerto Rican empanadas and many more treats. In addition to eye-catching displays and tasty treats, the festival boasts lively performances by dancers, clowns, singers, musicians, storytellers, and martial artists. Japanese drummers thrill audiences with their precision and rhythm; listen to the didgeridoo sound; be in awe of the Kenyan acrobats and belly dancers delight visitors are just a few of what is in store. Festival’s honors include a Tribute in the US Congressional Record, rated in the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast” twice, nominated “Event of the Year” for five years and selected as one of top 10 November events by Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel.

March 19 - March 21, 2010
Tucson, Arizona, USA
The Fourth Avenue Street Fair brings together 400 arts and crafts booths, 35 food vendors, 3 stages, street musicians, food, jugglers, street performers, kids entertainment, face painting, balloons, and tons of other fun activities, and then packs them into three days of celebration.

Come for the shopping: 400 booths featuring arts and crafts that cover the spectrum from fine art to country crafts. Glass, clay, wood, clothing, metal, jewelry, pre-packaged food, all hand made and on sale by the artist/craftsperson.

Come for the food: 35 food vendors selling an eclectic mix of good things to eat. Greek, Mexican, Thai, BBQ, fry bread, funnel cakes, chicken, and more.

Come for the music: 3 stages with something for everyone! Winsett Performance Center with several community performing arts groups; Main Stage South with an eclectic mix of the best of Tucson; Main Stage North with more of the best jazz bands of Tucson. In addition there will be an assortment of street performers featuring everything from Andes to violin music.

Come for the entertainment: kids areas with jumping castle and mini-train; face painting; chair massages; everything and anything you can imagine!
The Fourth Avenue Street Fair began when Fourth Avenue merchants put tables in front of their stores to attract customers before the holidays. From that beginning it has developed into one of the premier street fairs in the nation, drawing crowds of 200,000 to 400,000 and ranking as one of the top visual arts fairs in the country. The Street Fair has also developed into a Tucson tradition and an event that has an impact on every Tucsonan in one way or another. The Street Fair is the source of funding for 50+ non-profit groups that derive (in some cases the majority of) their income from the Fair, to the City which obtains a boost in sales taxes and a savings in services demanded, to the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association that earns the funds to keep Fourth Avenue a draw for all who live and visit Tucson. The two annual Street Fairs are Tucson’s biggest event!
