Description:
Float your boat at the 9th annual Rotary River Rally. More than 10,000 spectators will cheer you on as you race your home-made cardboard boat on a 200-yard course on Tempe Town Lake! Every boat is unique – from the design to the costumes to the ability to stay afloat!
Boats are built from corrugated cardboard, glue and paint – no other materials are allowed. Designs get pretty elaborate – rubber duckies, Viking sailing ships, submarines, and log rafts. Teams come from local schools, youth groups, families, individuals and corporations. Awards are given in 3 classes and 2 divisions.
Spectators can check out the boats and vote for their favorite at Friday night’s Advance Boat Preview (4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tempe Beach Park.) Races are held on Saturday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) FREE for spectators. Nominal charge for boats. Pre-register on-line or enter a lottery on race day to build your own “Instant boat”.
Some sink, some swim, everyone has a great time!
