Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival
March 27 - March 28, 2010

 |
|
|
Plan on attending Oregon's premier Indoor Kite Festival in Lincoln City, March 27-28, 2010. Yes, it's true. If you have the right kite and know how to do it, you can fly kites indoors without wind---and have great fun even if the weather outside is frightful!
So everyone can enjoy this great sport, Lincoln City hosts internationally known performers to demonstrate the art and teach kids of all ages how to soar without wind. The festival is as much ballet as kite flying. When performer Debbie Park of California climbs 30 feet above the gym floor, wraps herself in curtain-like ropes and performs, it’s more like Cirque du Soleil.
The Indoor Kite Festival will culminate with an American Kitefliers Association Indoor Competition on Sunday afternoon. Trophies will be awarded for the top three finishers.
This year we will bring back our Children's Carnival to round out the fun for the entire family!

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA |
 |
|
|
Warbirds Over the Beach Show 2010
The Military Aviation Museum will host the second annual weekend event to be held at the Virginia Beach Airport. The event will be open to the general public and will be held the weekend of May 22-23 on Saturday and Sunday. During the airshow weekend, we have made arrangements for three pilots to bring in their authentic North American AT-6 military trainers and a PT-19 primary trainer. These are the same airplanes that were used to train Army Air Corps and Navy pilots in the Second World War. From the primary trainers like the Stearman bi-plane and the Fairchild PT-19 Cornell trainer, they would move on to these types of Advanced Trainers and learn aerobatics and combat maneuvers. From this, young pilots would transition to either the Corsairs or Mustangs before being shipped overseas.
This is your opportunity to experience what this was really like. These aircraft are dual controlled with full intercom systems. You may control and fly the airplane yourself with the assistance of the instructor pilot or just sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful seaside panorama. Re-enactors will begin arriving for set-up on Friday afternoon and their encampments will be situated alongside our mile long turf runway. Come by early osn Saturday and learn about their individual units, past history, military gear, and see them dressed in their uniforms. It will be like stepping back in time to imagine what these young men would have encountered in the combat field, so far away from their homes.
The action and flying begins Saturday morning with the smell of bacon in the air. Numerous vendors will be in attendance selling trinkets and memorabilia from the era of both world wars. Food vendors will be serving their snacks, meals, and drinks. Come dressed in your grandparents uniforms or outfits. It does not take a lot to get into the swing of things.
During the day, be entertained by Theresa Eamon who sings all the popular torch songs of the 1940’s, laugh with Abbott and Costello as performed by their impersonators doing their “Who’s on First” routines. Sing along with the Andrew Sisters, who are done by the American Belles from New York City. As you wander among the encampments, you will feel that you are truly back in time, to an era that is fast being forgotten. Speak with many of the veteran pilots in attendance that experienced this all first hand and they will tell you what it was really like. Chat with a Mustang pilot that was only a teenager when he first left home to go overseas to fight in the distant war or another pilot, already as an old man in his mid 20’s flying Navy fighters in the South Pacific. Many will have their own books to offer you or photos from so many years ago, that they will autograph for you.
At 1PM on Saturday, the airplanes will roar to life and begin to taxi down the runway in individual groups. They will race across the grass field to their take off positions, c

 |
|
|
In a land where bison once thundered across the prairie, modern-day cowboys rumble across the land on iron horses. Each August, hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists journey to the Mecca of the motorcycling world: Sturgis, South Dakota.
The legacy of the Sturgis Rally began in 1938 when J.C. "Pappy" Hoel, a local motorcycle shop owner, and some friends came up with the idea of holding a motorcycle race and stunt competition. The first event consisted of 19 racers at the half-mile track and some dangerous events such as board-wall crashes, ramp jumps and head-on collisions with cars. Now, some 61 years later, it's the granddaddy of all motorcycle rallies and races. The small community of Sturgis has welcomed motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world for racing, tours of the beautiful Black Hills, concerts, trade shows and bike shows. It’s a week of fun and laughter and spending time with people who are as passionate about motorcycles as you are.

|
Car buffs from all over the country gather in San Bernardino to get their "Kicks on Route 66". The Route 66 Rendezvous is a 4-day and 3-night classic car show that encompasses a 35-block area where classics, muscle cars, hot rods, and trucks park and cruise the downtown streets of San Bernardino.
Activities Include: A Golf Tournament, Neon Light Cruise & Contest, the Firestone Burnout & Flame Throwing Contest, Open Header Cruise & Contest, and the San Manual Indian Bingo & Casino Poker Run Contest, 50's and 60's Music, two stages with Free Entertainment, Petting Zoo, Firefighter Competition, 5K Run, Celebrities, Awards, Exhibitors, and much more! All Free to the Public!
The San Bernardino Convention & Visitors Bureau (SBCVB), a non-profit California corporation, conceived the Route 66 Rendezvous in 1990 and is the sole producer of the event. The Bureau, the official destination sales and marketing representative of the City of San Bernardino, created and owns the Route 66 Rendezvous name and registered trademark.
Unlike many other special events and festivals, the Route 66 Rendezvous is not designed as a fund raising activity, but rather is economic development project. The SBCVB's primary objective is to create significant economic impact in the San Bernardino region through tourism by creating and producing innovative special events, like the Route 66 Rendezvous. The SBCVB has accomplished this goal.
The first Rendezvous took place in 1990 at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore with 300 vehicles and about 4,000 visitors enjoying the cars, a concert and a cruise down E Street in San Bernardino.
In 1991, the event moved to the National Orange Show grounds and expanded with the help of the Over the Hill Gang car club.
1992 put the event on the map as a major celebration for nostalgia buffs nationwide. More than 700 vehicles filled downtown San Bernardino streets in celebration of the 66th anniversary of Route 66 "The Mother Road."
The Rendezvous crowds have grown every year with the 2003 event drawing over 2,100 cars and over 550,000 spectators.
The Cruisin' Hall of Fame® was inaugurated in 1995 with a painted wall outside City Hall to salute individuals, vehicles, auto industry luminaries and others who have contributed to the mystique of the "cruising" era.
Four new honorees will be inducted into the Cruisin' Hall of Fame® this year.
