Description:
Car buffs from all over the country gather in San Bernardino to get their "Kicks on Route 66". The Route 66 Rendezvous is a 4-day and 3-night classic car show that encompasses a 35-block area where classics, muscle cars, hot rods, and trucks park and cruise the downtown streets of San Bernardino. Activities Include: A Golf Tournament, Neon Light Cruise & Contest, the Firestone Burnout & Flame Throwing Contest, Open Header Cruise & Contest, and the San Manual Indian Bingo & Casino Poker Run Contest, 50's and 60's Music, two stages with Free Entertainment, Petting Zoo, Firefighter Competition, 5K Run, Celebrities, Awards, Exhibitors, and much more! All Free to the Public! The San Bernardino Convention & Visitors Bureau (SBCVB), a non-profit California corporation, conceived the Route 66 Rendezvous in 1990 and is the sole producer of the event. The Bureau, the official destination sales and marketing representative of the City of San Bernardino, created and owns the Route 66 Rendezvous name and registered trademark. Unlike many other special events and festivals, the Route 66 Rendezvous is not designed as a fund raising activity, but rather is economic development project. The SBCVB's primary objective is to create significant economic impact in the San Bernardino region through tourism by creating and producing innovative special events, like the Route 66 Rendezvous. The SBCVB has accomplished this goal. The first Rendezvous took place in 1990 at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore with 300 vehicles and about 4,000 visitors enjoying the cars, a concert and a cruise down E Street in San Bernardino. In 1991, the event moved to the National Orange Show grounds and expanded with the help of the Over the Hill Gang car club. 1992 put the event on the map as a major celebration for nostalgia buffs nationwide. More than 700 vehicles filled downtown San Bernardino streets in celebration of the 66th anniversary of Route 66 "The Mother Road." The Rendezvous crowds have grown every year with the 2003 event drawing over 2,100 cars and over 550,000 spectators. The Cruisin' Hall of Fame® was inaugurated in 1995 with a painted wall outside City Hall to salute individuals, vehicles, auto industry luminaries and others who have contributed to the mystique of the "cruising" era. Four new honorees will be inducted into the Cruisin' Hall of Fame® this year. Need information about this year's Rendezvous, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.
