The State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina, an eleemosynary institution owned and controlled by life members, is responsible for the establishment of the South Carolina State Fair, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to educating South Carolinas young adults.
Organized in 1869, the South Carolina State Fair will celebrate its 145th year in 2014. The fairgrounds is comprised of 101 acres centrally located in the metropolitan capital City of Columbia.
The South Carolina State Fair is devoted to educating South Carolinas young adults and offers the South Carolina Ride of Your Life Scholarship Program to all public, private, and home-school high school seniors. Since 1997, this program has returned over $3M to educate South Carolina youth.
Facility rentals on the fairgrounds provide year round events such as boat shows, craft shows, home and garden shows, and civic events.
The fairgrounds is an adjacent neighbor to the University of South Carolina Williams-Brice Stadium and offers football parking on the fairgrounds for football games, with exception to games scheduled during the fair.
An annual 12-day fair is held during October when people of all ages come to the Columbia to participate in the South Carolina State Fair, recognized as one of the TOP 50 Fairs in the United States. The fair features nationally recognized entertainment in the grandstand, stages with a variety of acts such as comedy, bands, dancers, local entertainment and entertainment from across the state. The midway is provided by North American Midway Entertainment (NAME). Art, home arts, horticultural, agricultural and livestock competitions exhibits draw both rural and urban crowds.

I-26 East from Greenville / Spartanburg: Follow I-26 to I-126 to Columbia. Take Elmwood Exit to second traffic light. Turn right at McDonalds onto Assembly Street. Travel approximately two (2) miles look for Fairgrounds marquee on right.
I-26 West from Charleston: From I-26 take I-77 North.Travel to Exit #5, Bluff Road. Take Bluff Road exit and turn left onto Bluff Road. Travel approximately three (3) miles to the traffic light by Williams Brice Stadium the Fairgrounds will be on right past the light.
I-77 South from Charlotte: From I-77 take Exit #6, Shop Road.Follow Shop Road approximately three (3) miles and you will be facing the Fairgrounds.
I-20 West from Florence: From I-20 take I-77 South to Exit #6, Shop Road. Follow Shop Road approximately three (3) miles, and you will be facing the Fairgrounds.
US-76 West / US-378 West from Sumter: Take US-76 West/US-378 West to Columbia. Continue on Garners Ferry Road to N. Beltline Blvd. Turn left on N. BTimes
