DescriptionThe Texas Rio Grande Valley Onion Festival celebrates the development of the world famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco, Texas by Dr. Leonard Pike at the Texas A&M University Extension Service. The Festival is a one-day free festival for the entire family.
In addition to a great entertainment line-up, Onion Fest also has a Family Pavilion with crafts, performances and exhibits for families. Arts & Crafts Tent with 25 booths; 25 food vendors; 12-15 commercial vendors. Onion eating contests, carnival for kids; La Gran Cebolla Cook-Off with 35 entries and 5 categories, prize money and trophies.
The Festival also sponsors an Onion Recipe Contest annually. Winning recipes are published in an Onion Festival Recipe Book. The Onion Festival Pageant is also held a month before the event.

Texas Stage - Country Music, German Music.
Latin Flair - Salsa/Merengue Dance, Tejano, Conjunto, Mariachi.
Christian - Christian Rock, Christian traditional.
Dancing Horses - two performances, with 8 - 10 riders (youth & adult) riding individually and in groups. Riding Azteca, and Adalusian dancing horses.
