Center of the World Festival

Held in Pine Mountain Club, Kern County, at the base of Mt. Pinos, which is the Chumash Center of the World, this arts-cultural Festival is a social storytelling competition, including 10-minute short plays, videos, and songwriting. The theme of the festival is Eco-drama, based upon the Chumash concept of maintaining balance with the universe and humankind. Dates: 8/15/14 – 8/17/14. Friday night showcases Native American storytelling and digital video competition, with $200 grant prize. Playwright competition is held on Saturday, with $500 grant prize. From Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley—Take Interstate 5 North. About 35 miles north of Valencia (Santa Clarita), get off on the Frazier Park/Mt. Pinos offramp. This offramp is about one-half mile past the Tejon summit. You will see the Flying J Truck Stop to your left. Turn left and proceed west on Frazier Mountain Park Road, go past Lake of the Woods (where road name changes to Cuddy Valley Road), go past Cuddy Valley, and Pinon Pines.
