This thirty year old event annually offers attendees a relaxing, family oriented, affordable and fun-filled weekend which includes: 70 hot-air balloons (balloonists from all over the country) competing daily for various prizes, nationally renowned recording artists performing each evening, food from local and regional restaurants, fireworks, Disc Dog Competition(one of six national qualifiers with over 100 teams), interactive sponsor displays, amusement rides, continual daytime entertainment and kid zone designed for the event’s younger audience, two regional music stages, and much, much, more. FWA is always hosting new sponsor driven activities such as an annual run, home run derby, field days golf tournament, extreme sports, cooking and eating contests, competitions for the children, etc that are in the early planning stages for2009. The Freedom Weekend site is approximately 90 acres with a 16,000 seat grass amphitheater, midway, soccer fields/launch field, softball /baseball fields, tree lined paved walkways, permanent restrooms, picnic shelters, a replica miniature steam engine, and much more. The major goals, objectives and purposes of this event are to provide the 28 year average of 150,000+ attendees affordable and quality family entertainment which is responsible for annually creating and increasing the associated tourism benefits for Simpsonville, the Upstate, and South Carolina, to bring the Upstate national and regional recognition, to promote civic pride and patriotism, and to raise money for local and regional charities.
