DescriptionWelcome to the 10th annual Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival, a family-friendly free celebration of the Asian-American cultural in the Pittsburgh region. Enjoy day-long food, music and fun at the festival, located at South Side Riverfront Park. Follow South 18th St. toward the river and it will bring you directly to the park.
The Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival features Asian dance troupes, yummy food, and activities for young and old alike. Kids should visit the Westinghouse Electric Co. Kids Crafts Tent, or enjoy storytelling, courtesy of State Farm Insurance. Mom can shop the Dragon Stroll for textiles, jewelry and other tantalizing items, or take a Yoga class at the demonstration area. Dad can participate in time-honored martial arts, learn Tai Chi, or try his hand at Taiko Drumming (kumidaiko).
Visitors are also welcome to try their hand at Dragon Boating. Each ornately-carved boat is 44 feet long and features a brightly-painted dragon head and tail. A Dragon Boat holds 20 paddlers, a steersperson and a drummer to sound the beat for the paddlers. This is a truly unique experience and one that you may never again encounter. Dragon Boats are courtesy of Three Rivers Rowing Association.
The Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival is an annual initiative of Greater Pittsburgh Sister Cities Association, whose mission is to highlight the Chinese and pan-Asian cultures in the Pittsburgh region, and to promote intellectual understanding between the East and the West.
The event is free to the public, handicapped friendly, and parking is available on site. For more information, visit: www.PittsburghDragonBoatFestival.info or www.PDBF.org.
