The Science of Beer (or Liquid Bread)St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
Late October
DescriptionBeer has been described as “the drink of the gods.” At this special science café, scheduled as a prelude to
the Oct. 27 St. Petersburg Science Festival, we will explore the science of making great beer with two
ultimate beer fans!
How do yeast, water, hops and grain combine to form a lager, Pilsener or ale? The steps in the brewing
process – malting, mashing and fermentation – seem simple, but the process involves science and requires
careful supervision and tightly controlled conditions.
Tom Williams and Sean Norquist will share their beer experiences from home brewing to tasting to writing
and blogging about beer.
This is a designated “mini-fundraiser” for Secrets of the Sea Marine Exploration Center and Aquarium and
the St. Petersburg Science Festival. Special Two-Happy-Hours pricing: a portion of the proceeds will be
donated by The Ale and the Witch and local restaurants.
