The Beaufort Shrimp Festival’s popular 5K Run (USATF certified course) and Walk Through History will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Popcorn Shrimp Run for ages 7 and under will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the corner of Bay and Newcastle Streets. All require advanced registration. The 5K Run and Walk through History begin at 8 a.m. and the Popcorn Shrimp Run, for ages 7 and under, begins at 8:45 a.m. Races require advance registration. All depart from Bay at Newcastle Streets in historic downtown Beaufort. The 5K Run, USATF certified race, is a scenic route over Woods Memorial Bridge to Meridian Road and back. The walk is a leisurely tour of approximately two miles through the Old Point Historic District. The kids’ race is one block on Bay Street. Registration is $25 for the run, $15 for the walk and $10 for popcorn-sized runners. Winners in each age group will receive a collectible shrimp boat. The first 300 registered participants will receive a tee shirt, and all are eligible for opportunities to win great prizes after the race while results are being tabulated. From I-95 Northbound / Highway 17 Southbound Take Exit 8 at Hardeeville (Highway 278) to Highway 170 North to Beaufort. Follow Highway 170 North to Highway 21 South. Beaufort is approximately 20 miles from the Highway 170/Highway 21 intersection (Gardens Corner). Follow the signs to Downtown Beaufort. From I-95 Southbound Take Exit 33 to Highway 17 North. Follow Highway 17 North to Highway 21 South to Beaufort. Follow the signs to Downtown Beaufort.
