Proudly presented by Fo Guang Shan Melbourne and Buddhas Light International Association of Victoria (BLIA VIC), the Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festival marks the Buddhist holidays with a unique annual event which celebrates the vesak or wesak, (meaning Buddhas birthday) and Melbournes diverse multicultural society. Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festival incorporates the traditions of Buddhist ceremonies and Buddhist celebrations including the Bathing of the Buddha, daily Dharma ceremonies, the Wishing Bell and traditional incense offerings a vegetarian culinary tour of Asia alongside the Yarra on the River Terrace cultural demonstrations and insights music art and craft, community service groups providing information and assistance to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. The festival is a unique introduction of Buddhism for kids and families with special activities and games for the younger of body and mind. A festival for mind, body and spirit. As with previous Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festivals, entry to the event is free of charge making the event and programs accessible to those from all walks of life to enjoy Buddhism ceremonies and Buddhist holidays. This Buddhist Festival for Buddha’s Birthday (wesak) is organised entirely by volunteers of Fo Guang Shan Melbourne and Buddhas Light International Association of Victoria, with recognition of the ongoing and generous assistance of the sponsors and local community. The Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festival, now in its 15th year, is a much anticipated annual event showcasing Buddhist ceremonies at Federation Square and in Melbournes cultural calender - a proud thread in the multicultural fabric of Melbourne. The Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festival promotes vesak, a traditional Buddhist holiday with the hope that they will continue to grow and strengthen year on year and promote cooperation, cultural diversity, community understanding, and harmony. The 2010 Buddhas Day and Multicultural Festival is proudly sponsored by the City of Melbourne Federation Square the Victorian Multicultural Commission and Community Partner City West Water.
