La Placita Olvera is located right across the street from Union Station and one block from Chinatown.
It’s the host of many beautiful traditions held by our Latin Community. Also known as El Pueblo de Los Angeles is a traditional Mexican style plaza area with shops for handcrafted Mexican souvenirs. Olvera Street is the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles in 1781.
Menudo is a traditional Mexican aromatic soup made of beef tripe, hominy and chili, and is stewed for hours with garlic and other spices it stimulates the senses, arms the insides, and clears the head. Is served in big open bowls brought to the table steaming and fiery. There are a number of variations on menudo, including blanco (white), verde (green), or rojo (red). Typical condiments added to menudo are dried oregano, epazote ground chile flakes, lime juice, fresh cilantro and chopped onion.
Pozole which means foamy is another traditional soup or stew from Mexico. It is made with whole hominy kernels and pork, chicken, turkey, pork rinds, chili peppers, and other seasonings and garnish. Vegetarian and vegan versions also exist.
At the “MENUDO & Pozole food festival” (free entrance) in La Placita Olvera more than 15,000 Latinos from different countries and 5,000 people from other nationalities adding a little spice to their life will taste a bowl of Hot & Spicy Menudo or Pozole offered by Food Vendors and Restaurants of Los Angeles area. Attendants can also enjoy other type of foods, buy canned Menudo and Pozole and enjoy Arts & Crafts, Musical groups, 100 free turkeys, Cooking Books, Commercial Products, free health screenings, services and information provided by all type of exhibitors.Venue
