Early June
DescriptionThe International Festival–Institute at Round Top, founded by internationally acclaimed concert pianist James Dick in 1971, is an intensive six-week summer program for advanced orchestra and chamber music study and performance. From the beginning of June to mid-July each summer, talented young musicians from colleges and conservatories around the world perform concerts, attend master classes and study privately with nationally and internationally-renowned teachers, performers and conductors in the idyllic surroundings of rural central Texas. The 200-acre Festival-Institute campus on Festival Hill in Round Top, population 77, includes a collection of restored 19th century homes, the 1883 Edythe Bates Old Chapel, the magnificent 1100 seat Festival Concert Hall as well as extensive herb and flower gardens, lakes, footpaths, forests and meadowland.
In addition to the six-week summer festival, concerts, forums, lectures and seminars are presented throughout the year on subjects as diverse as gardening, theatre, literature, poetry, art and architecture during the “August-to-April”
Series. Festival Hill is also home to extensive collections of music, art, architecture, decorative arts, rare books, manuscripts and antiques. Accommodations on the Festival-Institute campus are available during the “August-to-April”
Series and music lovers delight in weekends spent on Festival Hill in either the historic 1902 Menke House or beautiful studio rooms. Dedicated to promoting the fine arts and humanities as integral to one’s cultural life, The Festival-Institute’s world-class performances of music and numerous other forms of creative expression year-round provide a necessary and vital public service to the people of Texas, the nation and the world in a rare place where beauty and truth are celebrated and everyone is welcome.
