27th Annual Newport Harvest Street Festival
27th Annual Newport Harvest Street Festival
Newport, Tennessee, USA
Early October
HAPPY ALMOST FALL Y’ALL! 27TH Annual Newport Harvest Street Festival plans are underway! Newport, TN – In the midst of the hottest summer on record in Newport the Cocke County Partnership/Chamber of Commerce is looking towards cooler weather, football time in Tennessee and the 27th Annual Newport Harvest Street Festival to be held in Downtown Newport on October 6-7, 2012! The 27th Annual Newport Harvest Street festival will continue the local tradition of providing great music, crafts, festival fare food, and a celebration of our heritage that will showcase Newport and Cocke County. “We look forward to welcoming past vendors and are gladly accepting new vendors that would like to participate in this year’s festivities” said Chamber of Commerce Director, Valerie Fancher. This year’s craft and food vendor applications are now available through the Chamber of Commerce office located in the Newport Community Center. The Newport Harvest Street Festival will once again be working with the local Newport AMVETS Post 75 to coordinate the opening ceremonies which will kick off the weekend’s activities while honoring our servicemen and servicewomen at the same time. After the opening ceremonies the streets will be filled with locals and tourists alike looking for homemade crafts, funnel cakes, kettle corn, fresh squeezed lemonade, bloomin’ onions, and much more delicious festival foods! What a great way to start marking names off your Christmas lists by purchasing local, handmade crafts and artwork! The festival committee is keeping their fingers crossed for warmer weather this year than last so that children can better enjoy an entire parking lot full of inflatable bounce houses, slides, jousting and much more! Thanks to the Tennessee Army National Guard there will be a rock wall for kids of all ages to conquer as well! The Kiwanis of Newport will once again be making its way through the festival offering train rides for the children and they can even take a helicopter ride. “Face painting is always a big hit at the festival and we will have some of the best face painters in the area” said Fancher. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair and camp out on the Cocke County Courthouse parking lot to hear some of the best musicians in our area perform! The entertainment stages will be in continuous use all day with musicians, local dance studio performances and much more! Sunday on the entertainment stages will again be dedicated to Gospel & Contemporary Christian music. What would the Newport Harvest Street Festival be without a day full of beauty pageants? Aaron’s of Newport will again sponsor the Miss Newport Harvest Street Festival pageant and will be providing a $250 scholarship and a $500 shopping spree at Aaron’s of Newport to the winner of the 16-21 year old pageant! Applications will be available August 1, 2012 at the Chamber of Commerce office. Get ready for cooler weather by thinking pumpkins, hay bales, app
