U.S. Sand Sculpting ChallengeSan Diego, California, USA
8/30/2013 - 9/2/2013
DescriptionThe 2nd annual new edition of a 33-year-old tradition of sandcastles in San Diego joins the Maritime Museum’s Festival of Sail to bring two great events to the public on Labor Day weekend, 2013. The U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge on ‘B’ Street Pier brings renowned sculptors from all over the world to this wonderful site with our beautiful bay on the West and downtown’s sandcastles in the sky on the East. Just 2 blocks North lie the world’s tall ships in all their majesty, and out on the bay, the ships sail with full regalia and recreate cannon battles of yore. This is a signature event for the City and Port of San Diego.
The whole family can watch some of the most amazing sand sculptures in the world being carved, see a head-to-head competition between the teams who’ve won the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition for 9 of the last 10 years, see and buy dimensional art from many of Southern California’s best artisans, be entertained by musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers, pirates and clowns, and enjoy kids activities in a giant sandbox, and more.
