Saturday, September 21st from Noon-10pmat the Alton Amphitheater. Organized by Alton Main Street, The Sierra Club, and Jacoby Arts Center, this 18th annual free, family-friendly event will attract 5,000+ attendees to enjoy approximately 30 educational booths, 30 eco-art booths, live music, interactive art exhibits, food and beverage.
Dozens of community organizations work together to produce this premier event that fulfills a request from the State of Illinois to organize activities that promote education, recreation, and conservation of our waterways on “It’s Our River Day”, the 3rd Saturday in September. Performers include Ahna & the Couch Burners, Jason ""Gordo"" Gordon, Aaron Kamm & The One Drops, and Jake's Leg. Artists include the Kooliverse, Jacoby's Art Center, the Riverbend Yarn Bombers, Jules Fair, and many more! Other exciting activities include the Zen Zone tent with free classes; The Great Rivers Rendezvous event, and the Confluence Conservation Awards. Local food and drinks will be available until 10pm.
The purpose of the event is to:
· Encourage use of and appreciation for the Mississippi Riverfront along with Alton’s other natural resources.
· Raise awareness of the environmentally friendly businesses, activities and organizations in our region.
· Recruit volunteers to remove litter from the Mississippi River; approximately 100 volunteers are boated to clean up riverbanks on the Saturday following the festival, resulting in over 47 tons of trash removed to date."
