Mozart’s sixth String Quintet was dedicated to Joseph Haydn, and features many of the dedicatee’s central European folk-inspired and rustic elements. Glinka’s Grand?Sextet?follows - a work whose lyrical energy laid the foundations of Russian musical identity. Josef?Suk’s tender Elegie?offers a brief moment of introspection whilst the evening culminates in a grand flourish with Dvorák’s String?Quintet?No.?2,?Op.?77, a masterpiece of Bohemian warmth and vitality and uniquely scored for string quartet and double bass. A celebration of Slavic song and soul, this programme is full to the brim with vitality, colour, and idiomatic Bohemian expression.
