On Friday 29th September, the a cappella ensemble Apollo5 performs in the Norman church of St Mary the Virgin in Wissington. Taking its name from the ancient Greek god of music, the group is acclaimed for its ability to produce a captivating and vibrant sound utilising only five voices. Fraser Wilson for Apollo5) George & Ira Gershwin – Summertime (arr. Matt Greenwood for Apollo5) Sarah McLachlan – Angel (arr. Penny Appleyard for Apollo5) Elton John – Your Song (arr. Matt Greenwood for Apollo5) Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart – With A Song In My Heart (arr. Matt Greenwood for Apollo5) Apollo5 presents an eclectic programme that spans across centuries and genres. From 16th-century compositions by William Byrd and Cipriano de Rore to original works by Paul Smith and Francis Pott, from pieces by George Gershwin to contemporary songs of Sarah McLachlan and Elton John, their performance seamlessly traverses diverse musical landscapes. With their impeccable vocal skills and remarkable adaptability, Apollo5 breathes new life into each piece, capturing the essence of each composition. Their ability to navigate through such a varied repertoire demonstrates their mastery of both classical and contemporary music, leaving the audience mesmerised by the seamless fusion of old and new.
