The 7th annual Adirondack Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, September 24 at the Essex County Fairgrounds from 12-5pm. The festival is a full day of family fun, with a farmers’ market, live music, farm animals, workshops, kids’ activities, beer, mead and wine tent, local food trucks, and much more.  The Adirondack Harvest Festival is unique in that it has a laser focus on local agriculture. It only features vendors that utilize locally harvested products and all activities are designed to provide all-ages education about agriculture in the region. The event is hosted by Adirondack Harvest, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County.   What to Expect at the 2022 Adirondack Harvest Festival Farmers’ and artisan market highlighting locally grown produce, meat, eggs, artisan dairy products, baked goods, flowers, herbal products, maple products, wine, spirits, fiber, wood products, and much more! Live music by local artists, Marie Marie (12pm), Ellis, Lane & Feinbloom (1:45pm), and Ploughman’s Lunch (3:30pm). Talks and Workshops:  * 12-1pm Home-Scale Forest Garden with Dani Baker of Cross Island Farms * 1-2pm ADK Tree Propagation Workshop with Alex Caskey of Barred Owl Brook Farm * 2-3pm Bird Friendly Maple with Zachary Boerman of the Audubon Society * 3-4pm History of Timbuctoo with Martha Swan of John Brown Lives! * 3pm Shiitake Log Inoculation with Adam Wild of the Uihlein Maple Research Forest * 4-5pm Wild Woodland Plants with Jane Desotelle of Underwood Herbs and the Plattsburgh Botanical Sanctuary Food trucks and vendors serving local food, including: Old Mountain Coffee, Farmers’ Cone Creamery, The Dogfather, ADK Food Oasis, The Barley Sandwich, Rivermede Farm Market, Crown Point Bread Company, and more.  Local libations tent serving craft beer, mead, and wine by: Hex & Hop, Oval Craft Brewing, and Four Maples Vineyard and Winery. Pre-Festival hike with Champlain Area Trails. Start at 10am at the former Ledge Hill Brewing Company parking lot, more info here. Opportunities to meet farm animals, with a petting zoo, pony rides and draft horse wagon rides. Free kids’ activities with the Black Kettle School, Essex County 4-H and Adirondack Farm to School, including: Face painting, seed collages and painting with natural watercolors all day. * 12:30-1pm and 2:45-3:10pm Storytime and brushing with Zelda the therapy mini-horse * 1-1:30pm Making Pollinator Friendly Wildflower Seed Balls * 2-2:45pm and 4-4:45pm Natural Tie Dye   Participatory social with traditional dances and songs by the Native North American Travelling College (NNATC), an organization dedicated to raising awareness of Mohawk culture using traditional singing, dancing, and storytelling. The program will be presented by Wadhams Free Library thanks to generous funding from The Adirondack Foundation. (1pm) Meet & greet with community organizations like the Essex County Soil and Water, Master Gardeners, 4-H and more. See the detailed schedule of events here. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend, Essex County WIC will be hosting a quiet space for baby changing and breastfeeding. To keep the farm animals and horses at the festival safe, please leave dogs at home, as there is no shaded parking area at the Fairgrounds.
