Join us as we tackle the ins, outs and way way way outs of space to celebrate our summer exhibit Gifts from the Galaxy. Tour the Galaxy- Book a stellar sightseeing tour of our solar system’s inner and outer planets with our Interplanetary Travel Agency on our 360 GeoGlobe. Get your photo taken on your favorite planet and collect postcards from your "vacation"! Welcome to the Space Gem- Explore what it takes to make a gemstone in space and get up close to some space gems from our extensive gem collection. Meteorite Lab- Work with the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute and use real meteorite specimens to learn how to detect meteorites in your own backyard. Black Holes and Gravity Wells - Find out what happens when two black holes just can’t keep away from each other! Space Lasers- Explore the mysterious world of LIGO- Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. Can you make your own LIGO laser maze? Moon Talkers- Jade Aster of Moon Talkers will show you how to capture the Moon’s good side with polaroid astral photography. Tastes like Space- Sample the foods you’ll be eating on a colonized Mars and grab a little preserved space treat while you’re at it. Lunar Gardening- Learn about Appalachian folkways and the tradition of planting by the zodiac signs to yield better crops with Transylvania County Library.
