Headlining the May edition will be RAND ANDERSON performing songs from his newest album Island Time which has been nominated for a 2025 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the year by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts. Rand is a multi-instrumentalist who focuses on the pedal steel, dobro, mandolin & guitar. He will be backed up by the band Hook+Line and very special guests featured on the album.
Rand was able to record over 20 bluegrass and slack key musicians whom he have met over the last 15 years through being involved with the Bluegrass Hawaii organization. After one of the campout events in 2023 where he got to perform with a pickup band, he decided to make this virtual “band scramble” album which features several of his original tunes.
All tracks were recorded in various living rooms, parks, apartments, lanais, and backyards throughout the island. All of the musicians went into the sessions “cold” and did not get to rehearse or even listen to the songs beforehand. They were only allotted a couple of ”takes” to create a sense of spontaneity. This very much added the vibe of the typical backyard jam or “Kanikapila” sound he was striving for.
RONNIE V. & FRIENDS:
Hailing from the Big Island of Hawaii, you don't want to miss the rare performance of the Ronnie Velveeta here on O'ahu. He loves showcasing the tradition of storytelling history through acoustic music. His sounds infuse Blues, Gospel, Soul, Bluegrass, Old Time and Americana music to celebrate the stories of the working class, from the darkness of hard times, to the triumphs of finding the light. Perpetuating positivity in the face of darkness is the moral at the core of all of his original music. Expect special guest appearances that will surprise and delight you.
HOOK+LINE:
With acoustic sounds at its core, Hook+Line offers a tour through classic Americana songs. With the sounds of bluegrass, folk, and country they are band which is not easily categorized as they enjoy pushing the envelope with acoustic takes of modern and island favorites. Hook+Line is lead by songwriter and N.A.C.E 's E'kahi award nominee for "Best Solo Artist" Jacob Staron.
ZACH MORGAN
Zack will be opening up the evening with his story-telling music inspired by his travels from Tennesee to Alabama to name a few. Now based in Hawaii he has just released an exclusive EP recorded in Honolulu, HI which will be available at this event.
