We’re getting back to business with some live outdoor events exclusively at Dead Wax on their iconic Duck Bath Stage.

2015 was a defining year for humanity; the blue and gold dress crisis, self-driving cars, Instagram becoming bigger than Twitter, and Josh Hyde being employed to decorate the kitchen of a certain Penny Handford. It was during this flirtation with painting that fate intended Josh to cross paths with Penny’s son, Harry. Josh was a guitar marvel, Harry had written a few songs about his feelings and before they knew it Spilt Milk Society had been born. They quickly established themselves as part of the thriving Birmingham music scene and gained attention from BBC Introducing; doing live sessions for WM and Shropshire whilst gaining airtime on Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 6 Music. Further afield the milky boys have since been hand picked by Steve Lamacq to play on the BBC Introducing stage at the Great Escape Festival and have supported the likes of Superfood, Fickle Friends, Tender and Marsicans.

BBC Introducing’s Adam Crowther called Spilt Milk Society “the most exciting band we’ve championed years” and said that “they have a bold, energetic and instantly lovable sound to their music”. Fred Perry Sub Culture called them “one of Birmingham’s brightest future bands”.

The end of 2017 saw Spilt Milk hit a million streams on Spotify – a number that has now grown to over 3 million – and the band had now settled into a new home in Liverpool to focus purely on music. 2018 came around and they took a 6 month break to reorganise and spend time writing following the signing of their first contract with Believe Digital UK. With bigger production, a clearer direction and fan base averaging at 150,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Spilt Milk Society are set to release three singles in the coming months. The first, Turtleneck Boy, is to be complemented by a clothing range, named ‘TURTS’, and music video. October 2018 will see their first UK Tour accompanying Turtleneck Boy’s release.

Other projects they have completed during their break include Harry’s solo outlet strawberry milkshake, Josh’s Toxteth project, Freddie’s Boy, Yowstra, Rob’s nun, and an E.P featuring songs they’ve collaborated on with fellow Birmingham bands Sugarthief and Violet.

The New Consistent is a 20 year old musician from the West Midlands described as having ‘exceptionally personal lyrics’ (IndieMidlands) and ‘a sharp wit and unique style of delivery’ (So Young).

On 22nd March he dropped his debut EP, titled ‘Individual Social Accounts And Commentary’ which featured 3 tracks produced by Austin Williams of Swim Deep. It was well received by many blogs online (Loose Cardigan Of Ideas, Happy People, IndieMidlands, So Young etc) and gained him comparisons to other artists such as Loyle Carner, The Streets, The Rhythm Method and Kofi Stone.

He started playing live in June 2019, and hasn’t stopped since, including a generous handful of gigs in the much loved venues of Birmingham, a headline slot on the BBC Introducing stage at Worcester Music Festival, a support slot on the Birmingham date of The Rhythm Method’s tour and the opening slot for Lady Bird in Coventry on their Un-Tour.

The New Consistent played his first headline gig, a Christmas party at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham on 19th December, which elevated him to the next level after packing out the room and showcasing a wide variety of new music.
In March of 2020 he got nominated for the Rising Star award at the highly-acclaimed Birmingham Music Awards, and featured in Counteract’s 20/20 vision list, proving him to be one to watch in the year ahead.

Despite the global pandemic, TNC stayed very active, putting out a Remixes Mixtape in lockdown, serving as a teaser to new music, which featured the widely appreciated remix of Ad Blue by Coventry band Feet. The upbeat track and timeless lyricism proved to be a turning point in the year for The New Consistent.

He now looks to end the year strongly, despite the constant disruption to the industry. Long – awaited single Turn Off All The Screens arrived on October 2nd with a music video directed by music legend Jacky P. With the EP announcement just around the corner, and a release campaign any musician on any scale would be proud of (working with Provide, Babmag, Cow, HMV and many more) The New Consistent looks set to breakthrough locally, and potentially further afield.

’You would have to search long and hard to find an artist that is so completely bona fide.’ (Words For Music Blog)
