Fall Field Day is not just an event, it’s a celebration of history and culture, a journey through time, and the premier archaeology outreach event in South Carolina. This year, we’re taking it to the next level with a series of exciting activities that will engage, educate, and entertain. Participants will have the opportunity to be part of an archaeological excavation within the 12,000 History Park. This hands-on experience will bring history to life as you uncover artifacts that tell the story of our past. But that’s not all! We’ll have an artifact lab and identification experts on hand to help you understand the significance of your finds. These professionals will provide fascinating insights into the items you discover, connecting you with the people who used them centuries ago. This year's event will be setup along a section of Old State Road. This closed section of South Carolina's oldest highway runs along the route of Sherman's march to Columbia and is within the Congaree Creek Battlefield. Come see and hear our demonstration of Civil War artillery! In addition, we’re offering walking tours of the park’s cultural history and foraging resources. These guided tours will take you on a journey through the park’s rich history, highlighting its importance as a resource for early inhabitants. You’ll learn about the plants and animals that sustained these communities and how they used the land to their advantage.
We’re also bringing back the popular hand-brick making activity. This interactive experience allows you and the kids to get your hands dirty and learn about traditional building techniques. And there’s more! We have a host of other activities lined up to ensure that there’s something for everyone. So, mark your calendars for 10/26 and join us for an unforgettable day of discovery and learning at the Fall Field Day. We can’t wait to see you there!
