INAUGURAL BURNING CITY NEO-VINTAGE ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL DEBUTS IN UPTOWN THIS JULY
Chicago, IL - June 1, 2018 - The first ever “Burning City Neo-Vintage Entertainment Festival” ignites at Uptown Underground, 4707 N Broadway, from July 25-29, 2018.
Drawing inspiration from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition, this new, 5-day festival focuses on the styles of entertainment first seen in Chicago along the White City’s “Midway Plaisance” with a modern-day twist. Historical performance arts like burlesque, circus, magic, puppetry and Grand-Guignol mix with today’s pop-culture references, political climate, and even family-friendly fun!
"This festival is a perfect fit for Uptown and for Chicago,” says Bazuka Joe, one of the festival’s producers, “this city has long been a hub for these kinds of entertainment and we are so excited to welcome so many incredible, award-winning performers from all over the country to our Midwest arena.”
The Burning City Neo-Vintage Entertainment Festival spans 5 days and includes 8 main stage shows produced by some of Chicago’s most sought-after producers and performers, Calliope Events’ “ROUGE! Cabaret & Neo-Vintage Dance Party,” classes & workshops for festival participants, an open-to-the-public figure drawing session with “Grotesque Burlesque,” “Red Light Special,” a sex- and body- positive dance after-party, and a Bowling Brunch closing-day event at sponsor, Burnt City Brewing’s, brew-pub.
“This community is just incapable of doing anything “small” and this festival is no exception,” says Jenn Kincaid, owner of Uptown Underground and festival producer, “what started as an idea to produce a self-contained, mini festival has turned into a massive city-wide, week-long event! Everyone we approached was just so game to get involved. It feels like Chicago, and Uptown specifically, really wants this.”
While Uptown Underground will be the main location for the festival’s shows, additional events, classes and workshops will be held at other Uptown and Chicago locations.
