Festival Details - "Celebration of Community & Diversity - African Drum & Dance Performance"...
Start: Saturday, September 24, 2022 3:00PM
End: Saturday, September 24, 2022 5:00PM
Shidaa Projects invites you to a free “Celebration of Community” on Saturday September 24th from 3 to 5 pm at the First Congregational Church of Berlin at 1808 Scott Hill Road in Berlin, VT. In case of rain, the celebration will be held on Sunday September 25th at the same time and venue.
Shidaa Projects Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a dual mission focused on 1) cultural education and diversity through sharing West African dances, drumming and other activities, 2) improving the lives of families, students and schools through our Help the Needy Project which supports the less fortunate in Ghana by collecting and shipping new and gently used goods. Like our name, which means “gratefulness” in the Ghanaian language, our goal is to share our appreciation of community and diversity by bringing together drummers, dancers, and musicians in a joyous celebration of this beautiful time of year and the wonderful communities in which we live.
The celebration will feature guest artists Akwaaba Ensemble, which brings together a group of professional West African drummers and dancers with many years of experience in Ghana, United Kingdom, and USA. The Akwaaba Ensemble’s energetic and engaging performances will collaborate with the host artists Shidaa Projects to perform Ghanaian and other rhythms from West Africa.
This program will be held on the grounds of the First Congregational Church of Berlin (FCCB). FCCB has had a special relationship with the larger Berlin community ever since its founding in 1798. The church grounds, including the VanDerreen Labyrinth, are open to everyone. The church, in its classic New England style, is an iconic feature of the Berlin landscape, a visible symbol of the mutual support for one another that is so important in our community.
