Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville begins its 9th season with Composers of Courage, a family-friendly concert that is sure to delight. The October 13th concert from 4-5pm at St. John's Cathedral featuring an all female composer line up, performances will feature a variety of pieces to recognize these lesser-known composers and expose their compositions to a wider audience.
Pieces will include "Callirhoe Suite" by Cecile Chaminade, four pieces that demonstrate the various elements of Chaminade's beautiful and interesting melodies; Emilie Mayer's moody and vigorous "Faust Overture"; the charming "Dances in the Canebrakes" by Florence Price; the energetic and majestic "Overture to The Wreckers" by Ethel Smyth.
