Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival 2021, now in its 23rd season, will offer three concerts in the Thalia Theater in Symphony Space on April 12, 19, and 26, 2021. These concerts will explore facets of contemporary music by living composers, all of whom will be present to discuss their works on stage with host and creator, Victoria Bond.
The Art of the 21st Century Trombone features the New York Philharmonic’s principal trombone player Joseph Alessi performing a world premiere by Jorge Machain; principal trombone of the Metropolitan Opera, John Romeo performing The Beginning of Spring by Harrison J. Collins; bass trombone of the Metropolitan Opera, Steve Norrell performing John Stevens’ Kleinhammer Sonata; associate principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic, Colin Williams performing Anthony Barfield’s Red Sky; bass trombone of the New York Philharmonic, George Curran, performing Kenneth Fuchs Trombone Concerto; Professor of trombone, Univ. of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, JoDee Davis, performing the premiere of The Voices of Air, by Victoria Bond. Pianists Hanako Yamagata Greenberg and Cullan Bryant will accompany.
