Festival Details - "Cypress Sounds Series"...

Start: Friday, May 30, 2025 7:00PM
End: Friday, May 30, 2025 10:00PM

Join us to kick off the summer event season and celebrate the launch of the new CYRESS SOUND SERIES in Mount Lebanon. Free and open to all ages, the concert will take place in the back parking lot of the Needle & Bean Coffee & Records, which opens onto Cypress Way behind Castle Shannon Boulevard in Mount Lebanon. The inaugural series event on Friday, May 30, from 7 to 10 p.m. features Pittsburgh bands The Garment District and Chariot Fade. East End Brewery Company and Caliente Pizza & Draft House will be on site selling food and drink. At the event, the featured bands will be selling their releases, along with new band merchandise, including T-shirts, posters, stickers and buttons. Limited-edition posters designed by Garment District member Maggie Lynn Negrete and screen-printed in Pittsburgh by Commonwealth Press will be for sale at the event to support the bands and future shows. Needle & Bean is accessible via the PRT’s "T" red line light rail system, with multiple nearby stops. Free on-street parking is available. If it rains, the show will move indoors. THE GARMENT DISTRICT is an ambitious psychedelic pop project led by multi-instrumentalist Jennifer Baron, a founding member of The Ladybug Transistor (Merge Records), that features contributions from a kaleidoscopic constellation of friends, family, and an impressive roster of local heavy-hitters. Band members are: Jennifer Baron, Mike Kelly, Katie Tighe, Corry Drake, Erik Cirelli, Maggie Lynn Negrete, Harry Scarrott; plus special guest Ross Reilly from Chariot Fade on trumpet. Recorded in Pittsburgh at David Klug Studio, The Garment District's newest full-length album, "Flowers Telegraphed to All Parts of the World" is available on orange vinyl and digitally via Athens, Georgia-based label, Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records. The orange vinyl was pressed by Jack White’s Third Man Records in Detroit, with lacquers cut by Warren Defever (His Name is Alive, 4AD). The group is led by Jennifer Baron, who is also co-author of the book, "The Pittsburgh Signs Project: 250 Signs of Western Pennsylvania" and was a long-time co-organizer of Handmade Arcade, Pittsburgh's first and largest independent craft fair. CHARIOT FADE "is an interesting meeting point of sample-heavy, groove-based indie rock and the nuanced psychedelics of ’60s-era French pop", according to music journalist Justin Vellucci. This ever-expanding pop ensemble attempts to blur the boundaries of the sonic landscape by dismantling rock archetypes and recontextualizing them into dance-friendly, melodic vignettes, both hauntingly familiar and distinctly unique. Chariot Fade is a musical project that was created by Jonathan Chamberlain and Jesse Ley of delicious pastries in September, 2019. It has undergone several lineup changes since its inception, but now boasts an impressive cast of local heavy hitters: Michael Cunningham and Ross Reilly from the band Neighbours, and Matt Ceraso and Rich Kawood of Mariage Blanc solidified the lineup in the Summer of 2023.
