Join us for an evening of extraordinary jazz with five internationally acclaimed jazz artists, Daniela Schächter (vocals & piano), Jason Palmer (trumpet), Rick DiMuzio (sax), Keala Kaumeheiwa (bass), and Bertram Lehmann (drums), performing a mix of original compositions and jazz standards reinterpreted with a contemporary spin. DANIELA SCHÄCHTER is an award-winning pianist, vocalist, arranger, and composer, and assoc. professor at Berklee College of Music and Brown Univ. Her musical career started in Sicily, Italy, before moving to Boston on a Berklee scholarship. She has performed with many jazz greats including: Randy Brecker, John Clayton Jr. and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, the New York Voices, Terri Lyne Carrington, Regina Carter, Christian McBride, Patti Austin, Ingrid Jensen, Shirley Horn, the Count Basie Big Bnad, and others. She has also performed at major venues such as The Hollywood Bowl, The Kennedy Center, and the Umbria Jazz Fest. She was in “Jazziz” Magazine's July 2021 collector's CD; has recorded four CDs; her newest, “Vanheusenism: A Tribute To Jimmy Van Heusen” with Van Heusen songs, about which Jerome Wilson (“All About Jazz”) wrote: “This is a stylish tribute that shows the elegance and force in Daniela Schachter's singing and playing. She brightens these familiar melodies up into something fun and new.” JASON PALMER is an internationally prominent trumpeter, composer, and professor at Berklee and the New England Conservatory of Music. He recorded 16 albums as a leader and performed on over 100 recordings as a sideperson with musicians including Roy Haynes, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Grace Kelly, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Maria Schneider, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Turner, Allison Miller, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Common, Roy Hargrove, Lewis Nash, and many more. Jason has toured in over 40 countries, and received multiple grants, commissions, and fellowships. He won first place in the 2009 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and was cited in the June 2007 issue of DownBeat Magazine as one of the Top 25 Trumpeters of the Future. Four of his albums were rated 4 stars or better in DownBeat, and of his “Rhyme and Reason“ CD Robert Ham wrote: “Palmer has found another gear to his playing that is taking him and anyone who joins with him to greater, more glorified heights.” KEALA KAUMEHEIWA, is an acclaimed bassist who studied both jazz and classical music with renowned bassist Richard Davis in Wisconsin before moving to New York Citywhere he performed with the New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center. Keala studied jazz bass and improvisation with legendary bassist Ron Carter and has performed with many great artists, including Jimmy Heath, Jackie McLean, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, T.S. Monk, Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Watson, Harry "Sweets" Edison, and James Moody. In addition to frequently performing at Sculler’s, Ryles, Wally’s, and the Regattabar, Keala also currently teaches Jazz Ensembles at MIT and Phillips Exeter Academy. RICK DIMUZIO, is a jazz saxophonist, composer, and Berklee professor, who has performed throughout the world. In addition to leading his own ensembles, he has performed or recorded with David Liebman, Steve Grossman, Bill Perkins, Kenny Wheeler, James Williams, Roger Humphries, John Hollenbeck, the Greg Hopkins Jazz Orchestra and Quintet, Bert Seager, Fernando Huergo, Phil Grenadier, Leo Blanco, and Kevin Harris, and others. From 2005-2020, he co-directed the Summer Jazz Workshop ensembles with Terri Lyne Carrington. Rick earned his doctorate in jazz composition from New England Conservatory and master’s degree in jazz performance from the Eastman School of Music. Of his 2020 recording of Time Travelers, Danilo Pérez praised it as “ a musical journey full of magical moments that kept me engaged and inspired to see hopeful images in the world. Rick’s compositions, orchestrations, and group’s performance tell beautiful stories; enjoy the ride!” BERTRAM LEHMANN’s innovative style of drumming & percussion make him a much sought-after musician. He is at ease with many genres, including Jazz, South American, African, Turkish, and other global genres. He has 65+ recordings and performances with Paquito d'Rivera, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman, Miguel Zenon, Anat Cohen, Romero Lubambo, Danilo Perez, and many others. He has performed at Lincoln Center, Birdland, Joe’s Pub, Metropolitan Museum, Symphony Hall, the Istanbul Jazz Festival, and more. Bertram also teaches at Berklee College and Tufts.
