The school’s young musicians perform crowd-pleasing pieces including works by Rachmaninov and Britten.
The instrumentalists and choral scholars of Dulwich College have performed in St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Cadogan Hall.
The college’s musicians have featured in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, the National Children’s Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra.
Recent pupils have had solo and chorus roles for The Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
This concert includes the first movement of Rachmaninov’s popular Second Piano Concerto, from its initial chords resembling tolling church bells to its passion-laden themes.
It also features the music of The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten.
You might have heard this likeable piece, which shows off the capacities of different orchestral sections, as part of your own musical education. It also played a key part in the soundtrack to Wes Anderson’s whimsical film Moonrise Kingdom.
