Start: Wednesday, December 4, 2024 6:30PM
End: Wednesday, December 4, 2024 8:30PM

Join us in the Baxter Room inside Lark for a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring renowned Bible and Theology experts from the Lancaster Theological Seminary of Moravian University. Delve into the heart of American faith issues and explore how these diverse religious perspectives can shape or impact our nation’s identity under a Donald Trump Presidency. This captivating event will examine the intersection of faith, politics, and culture, offering a unique lens through which to understand the complexities of faith, religion, and the American experiment.

Panelists include:

The Rev. Dr. Vanessa Lovelace, Associate Dean, Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament
The contested subject of motherhood was prominent in the political rhetoric in the 2024 presidential race. From "childless cat ladies" to criticism of the democratic presidential frontrunner for not having biological children to promoting policies that would prioritize women of a certain socio-economic class who give birth to children, there was a fixation on motherhood. Lovelace will discuss the intersection of race, gender, class and citizenship and the politics of motherhood in the 2024 presidential election.

Dr. Lee C. Barrett, Mary B. and Henry P. Stager Chair in Theology, Professor of Systematic Theology
Kierkegaard’s philosophies offer intriguing insights into contemporary electoral politics. Given his emphasis on individual authenticity, subjective truth, and the importance of making authentic choices, Kierkegaard might have had a complex perspective on elections. Specifically: The Danger of Mass Psychology: The Importance of Individual Choice: The Paradox of the Universal: The Role of Faith and Commitment: The Temptation of Despair.

Dr. Greg Carey, Professor of New Testament
Christian Nationalism, Biblical Eschatology, and the United States: Proponents of Christian Nationalism view the United States as uniquely blessed with a divine mission for the end times. But Christian nationalists hold conflicting views concerning those end times, views that result in different political goals and strategies. We will explore "Make America Great Again" politics as a response to major shifts in American society. We will also discuss how rapture theology and seven mountains dominionism eschatologies shape political visions.

All three panelists are critically acclaimed researchers and book authors on the topics they will discuss.

Participants will have time to ask questions and meet the authors.
