Giant Pumpkins and Squash Invade Olde Town

The Arvada Gardeners will be having a Giant Pumpkin and Giant Squash Contest in conjunction with the Festival of Scarecrows on October 8th in the Olde Town Square in Historic Olde Town Arvada. The festival runs from 10am to 2pm. Giant Pumpkins and Giant Squash entries will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and judging begins at 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be given to the three largest pumpkins and the three largest squash. Ribbons and Gift Certificates will be awarded to 1st ($50), 2nd ($30) and 3rd ($20) place. Besides the Giant Pumpkin Contest, the Arvada Gardeners (a 501c3) will be accepting donations from event goers for gourds, pumpkins, cornstalks, herb plants and decorative (Indian) corn. They will also be giving away free seed packets . . . if you can answer a gardening question correctly. Arvada Gardeners will provide free, festive gifts to kids at their "Cultivator Wheel of Chance." Historic Olde Town Arvada will be having a Scarecrow contest. Also visit the pumpkin patch at the Arvada Community Garden at 57th and Garrison, there are lots of good sized pumpkins and many mini-pumpkins and other festive items.
