The Great Albums concert series continues with “Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz” performed by Ryan Middagh and Rahsaan Barber . Sunday, February 10, 2019 in The Lounge at City Winery Nashville. Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz (also released as Getz Meets Mulligan in Hi-Fi) is an album by American jazz saxophonists Gerry Mulligan and Stan Getz featuring performances recorded in 1957 released on the Verve label.
Ryan Middagh is the Director of Jazz Studies at the Blair School. An accomplished jazz composer and arranger, Middagh has received numerous commissions for high schools, colleges and professional musicians and ensembles throughout the country, and currently arranges music for Grammy-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin. His music has been featured at the International Jazz Composers Symposium, been recorded by professional and collegiate ensembles, and several of his works are published by UNC Jazz Press.
Since earning a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of Music in 2005, Rahsaan Barber has set out on a singular path of musical excellence in performance, composition, education and entrepreneurship. Residing proudly in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, Barber enjoys a career that encompasses performing and recording in an ever-expanding range of musical styles including jazz – his “first love” – as well as blues, funk, fusion, soul, Latin and World music. Rahsaan’s passionate, sincere and studious approach to music-making has garnered professional appearances onstage with heavyweights of all genres including Gladys Knight, Winard Harper, Meghan Trainor, Martina McBride, Chester Thompson, The Temptations, Idina Menzel, Greg Allman, Delfeayeo Marsalis, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Chris Stapleton, Duffy Jackson, Kirk Franklin, and the Wooten Brothers. The saxophonist has performed on many of the world’s most prestigious stages for music including The Village Vanguard, Birdland, Lincoln Center, the Ryman, the Jazz Kitchen, the Kennedy Center, and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
