None of our neighbors should feel the pain of hunger, or the anxiety of where their next meal is coming from, and yet, in Western Pennsylvania, hundreds of thousands of adults and children don't have enough to eat.
We started Elizabeth’s and Miriam’s Community Gardens in 2005 to address food insecurity, and our work and partnerships with local food pantries have only grown since. We are blessed to steward these beautiful grounds and share its fruit with those in need - and we're excited to invite you to join in this meaningful and life-giving work!
Each year, we offer anyone with a desire to commit to tending a garden bed for the season the chance to do so for free, with support from our knowledgeable and caring staff, Sisters, and community of volunteer gardeners. Here, you'll make new friends, learn sustainable practices, grow fresh, organic produce for your family, and share a portion of your harvest with people from your own neighborhood who are struggling to afford food for themselves and their families.
Spaces are limited, so please apply soon if you're interested: https://www.stjoseph-baden.org/gardens.
You can choose what to grow! Our gardens have been filled with peppers, tomatoes, herbs, corn, potatoes, carrots, and much more. With a weekly time commitment of about an hour, you'll be able to play a vital role in caring for our dear neighbors.
If you've never tended a bed before, not to worry! We can provide the tips and support to help you get started. Applications will be accepted through May 2 or until all garden spaces have been filled!
