Hampshire County Gears Up for Art, Music?& Community on June?7
ROMNEY, W.Va.?—?The lawn of historic Taggart Hall and the adjoining blocks of downtown Romney will come alive on Saturday, June?7, 2025, when the Hampshire County Arts Council (HCAC) hosts its annual Arts &?Music Festival, a day long celebration designed to showcase local talent, boost small town commerce, and welcome visitors from across the region.
A full creative lineup, start to finish
• 10?a.m. opening & Plein Air Paint Out
Watch artists set up easels on Main Street and near Taggart Hall to capture Hampshire County’s summer scenery. Finished works will be judged for cash prizes of $300,?$175, and?$125, with a public viewing and award ceremony at 3?p.m.
• Live music on the main stage
A rotating slate of singer songwriters and hometown bands—curated by local musician Jim?Morris and The?River?House—will perform throughout the day. An open mic competition at the River House kicks things off Friday evening (May 23, 5–9?p.m.) for anyone who wants to test the stage before the big day.
• Art-for-All and Fiber arts demonstrations
Kids (and grown ups) can roll up their sleeves at the Hands On Art tent to paint mini canvases or craft festival souvenirs. The River House will provide Art-for-All and Fiber artists will show their skills and answer questions.
• Kids’ cupcake decorating corner & face?painting
Garden of Kneadn’ Bakery is bringing icing bags and sprinkles, while volunteers from the Bank of Romney will transform young faces into butterflies, super heroes, and mountain critters.
• Food Vendors
Follow the aroma of slow smoked brisket from Co op BBQ, satisfy your sweet tooth at Simply?Scrumptious?Sweets, grab grab n go favorites from Ashby?Henderson and the Romney?Ruritan, and fuel up with cold brew courtesy of Hope?Church Coffee Ministry.
Logistics & what to know before you go
• Hours: 10?a.m.–5?p.m. Saturday, June?7 (Open Mic at the River House in Capon Bridge Friday 6–9?p.m.)
• Location: Taggart Hall Green (91?S. High St.) and adjacent streets—follow signage.
• Admission & parking: Free. Public parking behind the Hampshire County Judicial Center; accessible parking at Taggart Hall.
• Restrooms: Portable facilities and hand washing stations on site.
• Pets: Friendly, leashed dogs welcome.
