Haw River Festival in Saxapahaw, May 7

The Annual Haw River Festival is May 7th in Saxapahaw! Celebrating our 40th Year Protecting the Haw River! Join the Haw River Assembly in Saxapahaw this Saturday May 7, from 4-8 pm for an afternoon of fun by the river, as we kick off the opening of the Saturdays in Saxapahawmarket season. There will be live music, guided river walks, canoe rides for kids, a kayak raffle, a silent auction, Paperhand Puppet parade, food trucks, and more! The Haw River Festival is FREE, and all donations collected during the festival support the Haw River Assembly’s work to protect the river. On stage with live music: Saludos Compay - 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM Jasme Kelly - 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM Honey Magpie - 6:45 PM to 7:45 PM One lucky raffle winner will take home a brand new Intex Expedition Pro inflatable kayak with paddle, pump and life jacket included! Raffle tickets are just $2 each, and they are for sale during the festival up until the raffle ticket drawing at 7:30. A silent auction will feature beautiful local art, crafts, gift certificates, and more! Attendees can also shop at the Saxapahaw farmers market, and get tasty eats from local food trucks. Down at Saxapahaw Island you can enjoy a guided hike along the river at Saxapahaw Island, and learn all about the Haw River and its watershed with the Haw Riverkeeper, who will be demonstrating how to monitor for water quality. Fun for kids and adults alike! Between 4 and 6 pm, expert paddlers will be offering short free canoe rides to kids 12and under (and a parent) at Saxapahaw Lake on the 10 person Voyager canoe with Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company. The Haw River Assembly is a non-profit, working to protect the Haw River and JordanLake since 1982, and will be on hand to talk about river issues and how to join the organization.
