Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center is a non-profit organization with a regional arts and crafts center intended to be a gathering place and connector to East Tennessee Heritage. The word ‘Tanasi’ is the Native American word for Tennessee and many of the artisans that showcase at the Center are self-taught in traditional crafts. Tourists, visitors, and locals alike can find a myriad of traditional and fine art including hand-crafted woodworking, jewelry, wood sculptures, coasters, blankets, cards, paintings, goat milk soap, books, local honey, and much more! All items are made by Tennessee artisans, most of which are local to Unicoi County. The Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center is located in the Town of Unicoi Tourist Information Center, 106 Unicoi Village Place, Unicoi, TN 37692 located off Interstate I-26 at Exit 32, open Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the only art gallery in a visitor center in East Tennessee, and is truly one-of-a-kind. Tanasi does hope to one day build a separate facility in Unicoi to showcase local artisans, with art studios, a cafe, a sculpture garden, and more! The Holiday Bazaar and Art Faire will be hosted on November 16, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Buffalo Conference Room at the Unicoi Tourist Information Center. There are 8 confirmed artists showcasing work including watercolor paintings/cards/magnets by Mary K. Brown, mixed crafts by Bobbie Campbell, oil paintings by Amber Howard, metalwork/jewlery/woodwork by Chirstine Kegley, acrylic paintings by Bill Perhne, origami and zentangles by Ellen Pitts, metal sculptures by Lynn Rozar, sterling silver jewelry by Sherri Walker, and woodcrafts by Ross Woodby, Tanasi’s Artist of the Month for September 2024. There are available spaces left, each a 2’ x 6’ standard folding table. Artists are Tanasi Membres, but other local artists and those affected by Hurricane Helene are encouraged to sign up. The last day to sign up will be Friday, November 15, 2024 at 4 p.m. Artists will begin setting up artwork on Saturday morning and the Bazaar officially opens at 10 a.m.! There is also a simultaneous Silent Auction happening via Facebook and in person at the Bazaar. Artwork will be on display and bids can also be made in person, concluding at 2 p.m. on the 16th.
