International Polar Bear Day was created to coincide with the time when polar bear moms and cubs are snug in their dens. As part of our celebration, we focus on the need to protect denning families across the Arctic. We are proud to be a Polar Bears International Arctic Ambassador Center and have worked with them on polar bear conservation education since 2008! ACTIVITIES FROM NOON-2PM: 12-2pm: Hands-on polar bear items to explore, a polar mascot for photo opportunities and a chance to purchase hand-made polar bear items with the proceeds going to the enrichment of Cranbeary and Kova. 1pm: Join us to watch polar bear enrichment! If you can't be at the zoo, watch live from our polar bear camera at https://www.alaskazoo.org/polar-bear-camera. 2pm: Join Education Director Rich Capitan in the Gateway Hall for a 45 minute talk about polar bears and his recent trip to Churchill sponsored by the zoo and Polar Bears International. The Kape Espresso Tayo Coffee Shop and the Zoo Gift Shop will be open for business. This is a general admissions event. Non-members pay regular rates at the gate, zoo members use their membership to get entry at no charge.
