The Japanese Cultural Fair is to provide an opportunity for the community to increase its awareness and understanding of Japanese culture. We believe that through increased education and exposure to the culture of Japan, we can help to improve mutual understanding among neighbors of the Pacific Rim and enrich the community of Santa Cruz County.
Every summer, Mission Plaza Park overflows with celebration of Japanese music, traditional folk dance, food and arts and crafts at the popular Japanese Cultural Fair in Santa Cruz. It has become a tradition for the fair to open with a wonderful performance by our own local Watsonville Taiko Group and to close with the powerful and thrilling drumming of the international renowned San Francisco Taiko Dojo.
Additionally, there will be demonstrations at the Zen Center, located half a block away on ikebana (flower arrangement), tea ceremony, bonsai and kimono workshops.
This event is a family-oriented fair. Admission is free. Free parking at SC County Building parking lot—shuttle every 20 minutes.
If you are interested in making a donation and/or want to volunteer to help throughout the day, please check out our website at www.jcfsantacruz.org
