JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION IN CHILLICOTHE, OHIO
The Pump House Center for the Arts and The Ross County NAACP, both of Chillicothe, Ohio will be cohosting a Juneteenth Celebration during the month of June, 2022. The events will be held at the Pump House Center for the Arts, 1 Enderlin Circle, Chillicothe, Ohio within Yoctangee Park and feature a different activity each weekend June 4, 11 and 19, 2002. The events for June 11 and 19, 2022 will be held outside in a covered area.
Our opening Ceremony will begin at 12 noon through 4:30 p.m. on June 4, 2022, featuring, “Celebrating Artist Of Color”, exhibiting artwork of various mediums from artist, local and surrounding cities in Ohio and other states. The Art show runs through June 26, 2022. A Hip-Hop Dance instruction from Flavor’d D Dance Studio, Columbus, Ohio, will be offered for any young person for $5, beginning at 12 noon through 2 pm.
Various vendors will be featured each weekend with items such as Jewelry; household items; employment information to name a few of our weekly vendors. We will also have various food trucks from Chillicothe; Circleville and Columbus, Ohio featuring home cooked meals; BBQ and Southwest menus.
We are proud to host a Literary Essay Contest for all Ross County Ohio Students from grade levels 4 through 12, addressing various topics in grade categories related to Juneteenth . Awards will be presented at the June 19, 2022 program.
We will be featuring a display of Dress of African American Women throughout the years from June 4 – June 21, 2022.
On June 11, 2022, from 12 noon through 3:00 pm, we will be hosting our Jazz Special, featuring local artist and well know artist from the Chillicothe area. This event will feature various genres of jazz.
On June 19, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 6:00pm, will be our Juneteenth Celebration – All Faith Service. Our guest speaker will be Elder John T. Coats, 2nd Vice President NAACP, Columbus, Ohio. Along with our guest speaker we will present both spiritual music and liturgical dance ministries.
