Jazz at Meade is proud to welcome the Lovejoy Group for the second monthly concert of the season. The Lovejoy Group is a versatile ensemble serving up energetic jazz, funky blues and smooth Latin rhythms. They have long championed the soulful blues rhythms of jazz, understanding that it's all about the groove! Karen Lovejoy, vocalist and bandleader, fronts the group. Karen believes jazz to be a beacon of light for the world. Her definitive sense of rhythm and phrasing gives her a distinctive sound and a style of her own. She loves good lyrics and enjoys digging deep to find the feeling for a tune. Karen is backed by an ensemble of phenomenal musicians that include Jerold Allen on piano, Herb Smith on sax, Lawrence Dean on drums and Emory Diggs on upright bass. You don't want to miss this concert! Jazz at Meade is one of the area's most interesting and intimate live jazz venues and is regarded as one of the "best kept secrets" of the Alexandria music scene. Jazz enthusiasts from around the DMV gather at Meade Church monthly from April to November each year to enjoy afternoons of wonderful music, great conversation and refreshments.
