Lunar New Year 2026 at The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden Spirit of the Fire Horse

On Saturday, February 21, the weekend festivities begin with a joyful opening celebration. Fire Horse–themed arts and family-friendly workshops, lantern viewing throughout the Garden, Lunar New Year tea ceremonies, calligraphy, and Nian Gao (Chinese steamed cake symbolizing prosperity and growth) demonstrations and tastings will take place across the Garden —perfect for families to explore at their own pace and soak in the festive atmosphere. On Sunday, the celebration reaches its full swing. Fire Horse–themed arts and crafts and lantern viewing continue throughout the Garden, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of lion dance performances, guzheng and dance performances, dumpling (symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and family unity) and Nian Gao demonstrations and tastings, Fire Horse art candy, sugar candy art, live caricature drawing, fortune telling, and a variety of food vendors.
