"Simply, absolutely, unequivocally wonderful"
-Melody Maker, London
For 50 years MAGPIE (Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner) have turned their transcendent harmonies toward all things peace and justice: civil rights, politics, diversity, and conserving the environment - with emphasis on the Chesapeake Bay, the Hudson River, worker’s rights and a world at peace.
Their resolve: preserve and enhance our beautiful, hard-won and troubled land, its people, its wilderness and green space, and its inclusive culture. They name corruption; they sing for justice; then with a joyous verve they rip off a '30s swing tune, a soaring salute to the Pete Seeger’s sloop Clearwater ("White Wings"), or a rollicking allegory starring
a fat fish ("Hugh the Manatee"). Their swing tunes take us back to that another era.
Magpie flies just under the radar of the mainstream music world, performing on independent stages large and small from here through Europe. They’ve written for film
("Neshoba"), produced and acted their one-act historical play on John Brown ("Sword of the Spirit"), wrote and performed the first museum musical at the Smithsonian Discovery Theatre ("Tales of a Blue Crab"), and have collaborated with actor/activist Danny Glover.
Magpie charms and moves audiences with rich vocal harmonies, intricate and layered instrumentals, beautiful wordplay, and their unending love for humanity.
Join us as we musically salute their vibrant 50-year collaboration!
