Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Winds, composed between the wars, crackles with wit, acerbic colour, and theatrical flair, balancing irreverence and neoclassical poise. Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 2, written during a rare period of retreat and reflection, channels restless energy and dramatic intensity, revealing a composer stretching beyond classical restraint toward a more overtly expressive language.
