Masters in their Prime: Fauré| Poulenc and Mendelssohn
Festival Details - "Masters in their Prime: Fauré, Poulenc and Mendelssohn"...
Start: Saturday, May 9, 2026 5:00PM
End: Saturday, May 9, 2026 6:45PM
Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 2 stands at the threshold of his full maturity, uniting rhythmic drive, thematic complexity, and a deeply inward lyricism. Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Winds, composed between the wars, crackles with wit, acerbic colour, and theatrical flair, balancing irreverence and neoclassical poise. Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 2, written during a rare period of retreat and reflection, channels restless energy and dramatic intensity, revealing a composer stretching beyond classical restraint toward a more overtly expressive language.
Charlotte Scott (violin), Maya Iwabuchi (violin), Adrien Boisseau (viola), Bruno Delepelaire (cello), Michael Cox (flute), Julien Quentin (piano), and Hellensmusic Masterclass Students.
